The "not prepared" seems a bit harsh, one could say that to every single person whose bag gets checked at the gate, including the road warriors who say "I can't have that bag checked, it has things I need in it, like my laptop and I carry it on every flight, it isn't my fault that the inbound connection didn't get me here in time to pre-board and the bins are full now." Again, perhaps language was part of the original issue, wasn't there for the boarding of that flight. Then again, it could be because they boarded last, and the agents were rushing to close the door. Less room to recover from glitches when they happen at the end vs when they happen at the beginning of boarding. He seemed to be very organized to me, his panic was very cool, measured to the situation, desperate, yet calm and orderly.
