Much more likely is that the customer mistakenly thought that they would get the bag back when their first flight arrived at ORD....that the bag was being gate checked, not baggage checked.

As was mentioned several times, there was an obvious language barrier that most likely resulted in the confusion.

Even if they thought they were getting them back at ORD they still didn't bring a single diaper or anything on their person? What if the baby let er rip 5 min into the flight? What if they ended up sitting on the plane for an extra hour delayed?
I agree with Ryan Gosling (jvphoto) - what parent (of any ethnicity) boards a plane without extra diapers? Parents don't leave their house without at least some diapers. I'm a parent and I carried diapers in my coat pocket! No parent wants to deal with any baby accident and planes are the best place to have extra diapers. Even a 20 minute flight is great for a diaper. This is what confuses me so much about that family. Anyway hopefully they carry spare diapers (at the least) on their future trips - they'll fit in a purse or jacket.
