That can be said across all brands, particularly in high demand locations (New York, San Francisco, Honolulu, etc.).

Upgrade is not a HHonors benefit at HGI. The only published Diamond benefits are:
750 HHonors Bonus Points per stay or a complimentary Hot Cooked-to-Order Breakfast for you and up to one additional guest registered to the same room each day of your stay.
With HP - just as with HGI, Marriott Courtyard, etc., you might occasionally get a courtesy upgrade based on status, but it's not a good idea to have that as any kind of expectation.
