I think that RUCs are hugely helpful. They allow me to buy F when it is affordable but to highlight a couple of flights a year where it isn't and really receive the benefit of my loyalty. Though they aren't guaranteed, being able to be bumped near the top of the list is a great benefit.
Also, if an RUC does clear in advance, it is great that they allow us to do a SDC to another flight with F availability. HUGE benefit to me.
