Just wanted to share that I was not protected this week on IB since AA flight was delayed and I was going to miss my connection. I called EXP line and the agent told me that I can get the upgraded class with SWU only on AA metal but not on other airlines. I asked him to check with his supervisor and he came back saying I am protected only on AA operated flights. He offered me a coach seat on IB. I thought IB was JBV partner?
The genesis of that info was from my post on travelingbetter and there is still some worthwhile reading on it there:

The "delayed and going to miss my connection" scenario definitely has yielded varying results, many times, not positive. Unknown if the supervisor genuinely didn't know of this policy (a bit unlikely and scary-- assuming it *could* have applied in your circumstance) -or- if supervisor wouldn't sign off on this particular case and then didn't explain it well to phone agent or phone agent to you.
