I've never understand this lament. When the time comes that Starbucks and McDonald's come to Havana, don’t go inside if you disapprove. It's that simple. Most Cubans are not going to be able to afford to go to those places. Their presence is not going to change the daily routines of most people there, nor will their presence change your experience in Cuba.
It's the numbing cultural crush that these huge, mainly US chains inflict on towns and countries - they homogenise everything, their products are generally awful, they pay their staff a pittance and they don't pay taxes. I think they are a blight on the world, frankly.
