Of course, if the UK had had the sense to join Schengen, then this service standard would be nil, as there would be no need to have an intra Schengen border.

May not be a popular view with the more xenophobic citizens of the UK, but I for one see no benefit whatsoever in turning our backs on Schengen. The supposed greater ability to control immigration, drug and gun trafficking, slave trade etc are I'm afraid illusory.
