However, she can in fact split the reservation as well.

+1 But I also think the GA should exercise some discretion here as well.
I am not sure if this is the issue of EGE being outsourced or weight issue with CR7. AFAIK - an outsourced station rarely exercises discretions even it can.
I am not a friend of M+ Explorer as it diminishes elite benefits. However, given the UA's intend to promote the card, I would say it is not wise not to be considerate.
