You shouldn't have to pay for your car to stay at the hotel WITH you!

We have reservations to fly into Richmond, VA. We've rented an SUV & will be driving to Washington, DC to spend a week in the Capitol. We made reservations at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.
Parking in the hotel is $26 a night, valet only. There is street parking, but it is meter only. Has anyone else stayed at this Hotel? What did you think of it? Is there any way around the parking fee? It seems like if you're already paying for the room, you shouldn't have to pay for your car to stay there WITH you! We need the car for some excursions that we will be making.
Any advice?
