I've had this issue (having to swipe up) 5x in the past month where I never did before. Perhaps the batch of SMGCs produced the last couple of months have defective mag strips requiring up swipes.
I've been getting the holiday ones for a few months now, and they've all worked just fine until this week. (Snowy trees)
