I'm looking to start burning my war-chest of UA miles on "aspirational" awards. UA's program has good value in its routing rules. In theory, there are some great *A partners with a good product, and *A J can have good value. In practice, I've found it extremely hard to find availability and build an aspirational award without spending >200k miles.
Here are the awards I can think of where good value can still be had: Any caveats or tricks for those?
- BR J. In theory, BR is good and the price is fair. Can't ever find availability.
- TG F. Can find availability, but BKK is usually out of the way. Also, *A F is too expensive.
- LH F (to asia). For two long-haul LH F flights to asia, I can justify the 110k. Availability is too limited far-out.
- SK J. New J product can have good value at 70k to Europe.
- NH/OZ J? Can it be found?
Here are the awards I think are lame:
- Domestic anything. You can get around max 2cpm value out of this. J is nothing special and can be had fairly easily with CPU/RPU.
- UA international anything. UA J / F is fine; but not aspirational, and I'd rather route around R space and burn GPUs.
- *A Y anything ex-USA. Better off on UA for E+.
- LX F anything; availability is nonexistent. J is mediocre. (Have not flown the new 773ER yet—maybe that changes things.)
- SQ J/F - nonexistent.
- TK J. 2-3-2 layout is lame-tastic. A good lounge for this is not special enough to make this a good award.
What did I miss?
