I've used lastminutetravel.com, it's the non-membership opaque side of the same company, and been satisfied. A few hotels may assign travelers from consolidators like LMTClub and opaque sites like Priceline to lesser rooms. But hotels usually make rooms available through these channels when they won't be sold out anyway, and in that case, most will leave their worst rooms open and assign the better ones to the guests they do have, however they booked.

Depending on the chain, you probably won't earn loyalty points and may not get elite benefits. But if that's ok and the price is right, go for it.
