You need to learn to use Priceline or Orbitz. First go to Orbitz.com or Biddingfortravel.com to determine the best price. Take the BFT/Orbitz price, go to Priceline and bid less. $21 a day ought to get you a standard car (Mustang or equivalent). $23 for a full size Escort or equivalent. Ignore all verbiage on the Priceline site about how this is too low of a bid, and ignore all counteroffers. You will generally get Hertz or Alamo. The counter dude will try and upsell you (convertible / satellite radio / bigger car) for $X/day. Haggle with him or her. Don't pay extra for the satellite radio. I usually wind up with a Mustang convertible with satellite radio for about $29/day using this method. If for some reason PL does not work, take the lowest Orbitz price except for Thrifty (they kept a $300 hold on my CC for 10 days).
