Have you been to Australia? If you want to move there, why don't you take a holiday and visit the places on your short list. Don't treat it like a vacation, but go visit where you might want to live and see the neighborhoods, talk to real estate agents about housing, schools, etc. All the research you do from far away will pale in comparison to going over to visit in person to see it for yourself. See if you can meet any expats (try things like MeetUp) to see what they say.
