I think the tone of this thread might alarm first-time visitors.

I suspect greg0ire might have meant, "will they be able to get a taxi at the time of night", as in, "Is it safe to assume that I can get a taxi..."?

Of course the answer is yes, the official taxi queues on level 1 operate 7/24/366.

Based on a cursory observation of the posts here and on other forums, the general level of scams seems to be relatively low, like ~ 2% of rides, and when "scammed" the amount seems in the range of 100 baht. Nothing to be alarmed at, and physical danger seems near zero.
