Do check the "stickies" at the top of this area. Lots of sites listed. I like Priceline bidding, but when my needs are a little different I have had occasion to use many of the others.

Maybe if you listed some of your requirements/needs/preferences, people here could steer you to the sites that are better for those.

Priceline bidding will get you a room with sleeping accommodations for 2 people, within the boundaries of the zone you bid, and having the features of the star level you bid. It will tend to do this at the lowest rate.

Hotwire and Priceline Express will allow you to select for specific amenities, but it can be any hotel in the area at the star level you select. Hotwire will let you put in the number of people, so will have sleeping accommodations for that many. You can jigger it doing things like putting in 3 people when there will only be 2 so as to get separate beds.

There are the serious budget sites like hostelbookers.com.

And all sort of others like Kayak, Orbitz, etc.

My brother insists he can do as well as my bidding by just using the coupons in the tourist rest stop free magazines. And he doesn't have to commit until he drives up and looks at the place.
