There used to be an endless recorded message at LGW:

"There are no flight calls at Gatwick airport. Please check the screens regularly for details of your flight. Il n'y a pas d'annonces de vol a l'aeroport de Gatwick. Veuillez verifier les ecrans regulierement pour les details de votre vol. Es gibt keine..."

etc.

The reason always given for the lack of flight announcements at Gatwick? Too many 'other' announcements - there was no time to fit it in. The only other announcement, though, was this 'there is no flight announcements' announcement.
