There aren't many interesting tourist attractions but if you're going to go, Splendid China is not bad and gives a good overview of Chinese cultures.
My initial thought as well when reading the thread. When I have visitors that insist on going to Shenzhen, I'll take them to Splendid China if weather permits, and Shekou or downtown Dongmen for the fun food and techno music shopping experience.
