I am not yet back in the US. I am in Asia. My flight was delayed ~16 hours, and then cancelled while I slept last (asia) night. I'm now booked on the same flight the following day, which has not yet occured. As it turns out, I have absolutely no schedule pressure, so the extra day was fine.
I definitely wouldn't say I prefer calling delta from abroad! 1/3 of my calls ended with me getting shunted to the survey mid-call, 1/3 of my calls were with agents that weren't able to help, and 1/3 went well. Relied entirely on google voice, but with spotty internet access, and limited battery. Since the 2 affected flights were on different PNRs, I mainly just didn't want to be a no-show by 24 hours and rely on hope that they would not cancel my 2nd ticket.
I definitely prefer that, in the end, Delta was able to sort it all out.
