i'm a bit of a neophyte here, so please excuse me if i'm getting anything wrong!

my gf and i are considering a big 7-month round the world trip for the summer and fall of 2017. we're based in nyc, so we're considering something like:
NYC - Rio - Buenos Aires - Tokyo - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Mumbai - Bucharest - Rome - NYC.
(would love to get lots of other places in there, like Seoul, Jakarta, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Moscow. if you have any other can't misses, let me know.)

i'm trying to figure out the best way to go about booking these tickets. of course the trip is a long while away, and the miles programs/prices could change by then, but i'm primarily looking for advice about the best way to begin thinking about and stocking up miles. ideally, i would love to book these as AWARD RTW tix.

i've got about 140K ultimate rewards points, and another 100K delta points. (tho, i know they don't play nice together.)

i've heard of the korean air skypass RTW tix, at 140K a pop, but not quite sure i could get to the necessary 280K by the time i was booking these tix. (obviously, as we're traveling together, my gf and i would greatly prefer sitting next to each other on all of these flights. we don't care about flying biz/first.)

so, any advice? am i thinking about this wrong? should i be doing something differently? any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!
