The thing about Stonehenge is,having taken various people there over the years,is that it can either be a boring bunch of rocks or a mystical connection to extraordinary achievements which happened when people lived in straw huts.
Part of the problem is how badly the experience has always been presented by English Heritage who themselves have been hampered by the fact that a very bad and incredibly busy road runs right past it.
I always try to tell people looking at the monument that the rocks were hewn from a quarry in Wales and physically dragged hundreds of miles to the site by people with ropes and muscle.
Then lined up with laser-like precision so that at a certain time on one day in the year the sun breaks over a specific stone.
Generally,it wrecks their heads thinking about it.
