How about paging the passenger!
Having this as a long-term solution is just unacceptable.

This just feels like a small-scale "big brother" to me. Just searching behind my back (locked or unlocked) bothers me. Let's hope this is like a 5-10 year solution.
On the bright side, at least the TSA seems to understand that passengers should be able lock their bags. I'll probably sink $40 to get some of those new locks and still use those one-use plastic locks.
In my own rationality, I expect pax paging to be fully implemented within 8 years for all airports, when better technology comes about, with lower false positives. So, the number of bags that may need to be physically searched would be small. I just hope the TSA is aiming for that too.
