Taxes/Fees make air travel VERY expensive
Today, I was looking for a cheap fare on JetsGo, a kind of international Southwest from the Northeast to Canada. Specifically, Newark to Toronto.

Departing flight was $69.

Returning flight was $59.

Great. How much in total?

$288???? WHAT? Taxes and fees come to $160 - sure, they have low fares, but taxes and fees discourage cheap travelers from traveling anyway.

If that $10 sushi bento box lunch came to $23 after taxes and gratuity, wouldn't you feel robbed?
