At $500 O/W in flex I don't think there is an advanced purchase requirement.

I bought one at T-2hrs for $500 within the past two weeks. I even got a confirmed upgrade to a studio pod. So it's going to come down to fare bucket availability. Once the $500 bucket is empty (V in my case) and you have to buy something higher like M, it gets expensive.
