People can and have been terminated, there is a process in place. Several new hires have been terminated for things like not meeting crew on-time at layover hotels. While on probation the union is powerless, but after the fact it can happen but is a long and daunting process.
Don't FA's still get fired for theft? Awhile back there was a big deal made when UA fired an FA for taking a carton of milk off the plane.
