Last couple of flights we have bounced our way over the atlantic from miami and every time we land i question why I bother doing this - even though it is just 'light chop' in the calming words from the flight deck. Miserable experience, I just can't get my mind to forget about it and relax. Drop the air pressure and knock me out, eh? Hitting another aircraft's wash is always fun too....
What did it for me was a bumpy tatl at night. On an old DL TriStar an hour of what felt like being on a roller coaster. Stomach lurching up and down, watching the overhead TV's bouncing around and the overhead bins shaking.
After half an hour I realised the plane wasn't going to shake apart and apart from the nausea calmed down.
Ever since then I've realised moderate chop is nothing to fear.
