If you book an AA flight using TYP's, the trip receipt on AA's website shows a fare of zero. This is in stark contrast to a US Air flight, where the trip receipt would show the equivalent TYP fare in dollars. The only way to get the equivalent fare in dollars for an AA redemption now (and perhaps always for AA legacy?) is to call Citi TYP and request a cash quote for the redemption.
As an update to my previous experience months ago, I just booked an AA flight this morning using TYPs and found that my receipt on AA showed the correct fare value ^! So whatever backend system work AA has been doing with legacy US Airway has brought this feature back. This may or may not affect anyone else, but this is big news to me so I thought I'd share
