I have used PWM to pay for the UP fare to F. I have always received the 50% service class bonus. I did this as recently as two weeks ago on DCA-SEA.

The miles is normally the difference in fare from Y to F and I'm often given the UG for $xxx or xx,xxx miles. When you do this it changes your fare class.
