As an aside, if you don't buy a seat on Easyjet then they tend to shove you in the 'free' seats first. So if, like me, you buy an up-front/exit seat then there's a very good chance (~70% for me) of a free seat next to you.
On Friday night, a couple were sat separately (presumably on separate bookings) with 1 in row 4 with empty seats next to them and the other in row 10. When the pax asked if the row 10er could move to row 4 they were going to charge as it is a premium seat but they can move to the free row down the back at row 20 for free. All seemed a bit ridiculous given the flight wasn't full.
