Hi Gang,

I am new here and have kind of a unique situation that I would love to get your opinion on (see link below for full story.) Essentially, I have 10K cash, and a month (this fall) to take a trip around the world to honor my dad recently passing away.

In my other thread, some folks suggested I open a credit card or 2 to help with this trip. I am still adjusting to learning everything here, (it's quite overwhelming, but quite fascinating!) so I am curious, would the Chase Sapphire Preferred be a good "first card" for me and my trip? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Purdue

PS--I have 2 (long story) existing Freedom Cards. Card 1 has a 2K limit and I have had it for 6 years. Card 2 has a 8K limit, and I've had it for 2 years. I've never missed a payment, and have a score in the 720s. Ideally, I'd like to get my XYZ card (whatever you think is best) for my trip and transfer the 8K balance to the 6 year old card and close the 2 year old card. Thoughts?
