I'm on a cheap ticket NUE - FRA - DFW - EWR / JFK - FRA - NUE. The bag did not make the EWR to JFK transfer in time for the flight. It was delivered the next day by taxi, and the day after, I had an apology letter in my mailbox. Times have changed since 1987.

On a BSL - FRA - DFW leg, my bag did not arrive at DFW. I contacted the ground staff. "Yes we know about it. Your bag was not loaded at BSL because they load the priority bags last, and there was not enough room for all of the baggage. The ground crew made an error. So it was flown to LHR to make a connecting flight to JFK, in order to connect to IAD, and then to DFW, and it should be here in two hours. We will deliver it as soon as it arrives." They did not know that it had been held at customs at JFK, so I got it the next day.
