Not always the case. I'm also a KrisFlyer member and basically do the same what you recommend (+ I also credit flights to SQ from time to time and hotel stays and car rental). However lower mileage requirements not always the case. Indeed KrisFlyer has some sweetspots (like Bali to Istanbul for 38250 miles in business OW), but other redemptions could be priced a way less advantageous.
E.g. South East Asia to New Zealand (what I need right now) in business:
UA - 30,000 miles
SQ - 55,000 miles
