I based that on the following except from BA.com
I've checked my account, and I had an I2 service, booked into I2, last week. It has been credited already with a measly 5 TPs but 1265 Avios for FUE-MAD, but I noticed it has given an IB flight number in BA.com, the boarding pass shows I2, not "sold as". Read into that what you will! If the price gap is small then I can see the point in paying extra to be sure of the Avios.
