I'd still go CE over ET anytime that the fare allows, the guarantee of having no one next to me, rather than playing the lottery that no one will sit in the middle seat, is worth every penny.
ET with noone next to you allows you to turn sideways if you wish, or put the arm rest up and use some of the other seat space, or so on. CE has the table firmly stuck between the seats so the space available for you is less.
I agree that CE means you're guaranteed the table space next to you, but I think that table space does not greatly increase my seating comfort because the CE seat is the same narrow, too-short space as ET.
