I'd have to dig back for sure, but I remember people bragging that they could easily clear 1,000,000 ff miles in a year, just from sign-up bonuses.

Those were the days of 50k bonuses left and right. Churn all you want. There were also a few more airlines, so you could clear a UA, AA, USAir, Continental, Delta card.

Considering the AMEX once-per-life bonuses, the Chase 24/5 rule, airline mergers, bonus reductions, etc. Keep it simple by excluding biz cards since that's a new trick and one probably going away anyway.

What's a reasonable amount to keep earning per year now? 6 cards @ 40k each = 240k?
