Wait- I thought they matched the plate AND BILLED YOU. Not the registered owner. The whole point of the online system is so they link a plate to you and your credit card, and it is independent of the registration.

If you do NOT have the pass (and their match fails to find an account linked to the plate number on the video capture), then their search drops to the registered owner- and the fees add up

NB: It is not in the Hertz Ts&Cs. I just reviewed the 32 page document. Hertz fails to advise that 'the normal 3 day grace period does not apply to hertz cars'

I contacted the pass people- will see what they say. IME Hertz cant change their process even of they do put it in the TCs, which they dont.
