This is actually a sad story for me - but qualifies. I was working in Georiga for a year and I had to have my cat put to sleep because he was very very old and very ill. I had this cat since I was 11 (19 years) and it was a very traumatic experience for me. A good friend from my home town flew down to be with me when I had my cat put to sleep. I couldn't bear the thought of burying the cat in Georiga because I had no connection with the place and hated it there. We decided that it would be best if we could bury him at my friend's house. So we boxed up my dearly departed in plastic, a box, and more plastic, and put the box in my suitcase. My friend returned to our hometown and checked the suitcase with cat through the airlines. She was actually about to carry on the luggage when it struck us that going through the x-ray for carry-on could lead to very uncomfortable looks from the guards, at the very least. So - a dead cat is the strangest thing I have (second hand) ever brought on to the plane.
