I would think that if the console got hot enough to caramelise sugar then stickiness would be the least of its problems! Salt would be disastrous if combined with any liquids. Sugar sweetened drinks would leave a sticky residue. Crumbs would attract mice, which would gnaw the wiring. It's amazing that the pilots are allowed anything.
On Long Haul, they are very well fed... And quite often still ask for more... It is like being in a weekly performance of Oliver sometimes...!
And, on the point of the sugar... Maybe not hot enough to make a nice caramel to go on a pudding, but certainly to make it sticky. I think people underestimate how much heat is given off by not only instruments, but also things like IFE screens and server platforms etc.
