I have two questions if anyone can provide some incite.

Does this violate the MPM? (and if so, what does that mean? given less miles? not bookable even though it's on hold with aa?)

per experflyer I found this....

2) I was also looking to "nest" this from NYC. If I book two different tickets, is that ok?

Thanks for any input, newbie here. I tried to search the forum for an answer but I was still not clear.

Based on the lucrative deals coming out of LAX, I'm trying to take advantage. Also if this is too off topic, sorry MODs.
MPM is maximum permitted mileage. Some fares will publish restrictions on what the MPM is for a ticket, more so on intl itineraries. It's there for routing purposes to say "Hey, you can route LAX-ORD/MIA/PHL-PTY, but not LAX-SEA-PHL-MIA-PTY. It allows for you to make a connection or two that's not completely out of the way. If you violate the MPM (usually 1.25-1.5x the distance from A-B), you will pay more. It's part of the fare rules, and every carrier has them (so it's nothing specific to AA). There is also deductions that can apply, and these are usually through a couple hubs. I know when I booked mine, both LAX and MIA were (750?) mile deductions, so they actually get subtracted from the miles of your itinerary.

If you have it on hold, you can still book it no problem.

It's also perfectly okay to nest tickets.
