After reading through various threads, I found that I had an old copy of Skype for iPhone (downloaded for an older and more obsolete iPod Touch) in my Apple Store account. Actually works though not very elegantly or prettily (either iPhone-sized app screen on an iPad or blow it up and suffer the digital blow up).

Now to try to cobble some e-mail to work....
