This is an interesting read. In the 10 years I've been a 1K, I've its seen the value decline sharply. 1Ks have gone from boarding first on a plane to the 5th group. My GPUs now expire regularly and I can't even give them away because there is zero R or RN availability out of SFO on premium flights (most recently was looking at SFO-EWR and SFO-LHR for example). So it's good to know that dropping it is not so bad. I'm qualled for this year, that I think will be it.
I fly SFO-ORD at least once a month and never any R space. I had only one RPU clear last year and that was five minutes before boarding. I was #1 on the list and the only one who cleared. Trying to upgrade out of SFO unless you get the rare domestic 777 is impossible.
