Outstanding pictures passy777 ^^ Thanks for sharing and posting them in the thread.
If I'm honest, I am not quite sure of what this is, I suspect it is one of the optical phenomenon of the atmosphere caused by cold temperatures aloft (more than usual) combined with ice crystals that happen to be aligned in a specific pattern to allow the low Sun's rays to break out and create an effect similar to a corona or halo but the cloud is quite thick in appearance and usually the Cirrus/Cirrostratus is very thin to allow this to happen. It could be that the light is being broken by water droplets in the cloud which would explain the thicker cloud and stronger opacity but as I say, I've not seen this before from such thick cloud and covering such a large amount of sky (sometimes on the edges of a thicker Altostratus cloud or Cirrostratus cloud you get Sundogs....) Anyway, a lovely phenomenon and a treat to look at, thanks again for sharing ^
Any other interesting weather phenomenon seen during your BA travels?
