This has come up before. There didn't seem to be many of us on FT - maybe 10 maximum.
Issues against using my plane for business are:
Base airfield does not open until 9.00 am, closes at sunset.
Excellent air, rail, road links from London.
The sheer time it takes to drive to the field, get the weather, preflight it, change clothes afterwards (can't check the PA-28 fuel drains or flap tracks on a grass field in your business suit!), etc.
Difficulty in getting from nearest airfield to business appointment, and return. Strangely, some of the most difficult places to get to by regular means are also nowhere near a GA airfield.
My PA-28 cruises at 120 mph. Car on a motorway in Britain does 70 mph. Not a lot of difference.
Unreliability of weather, particularly when returning.
By the time you add in all costs, works out significantly more expensive than other means.
And finally, a perception by the clients that if I turn up in my own plane, they must be overpaying me.
So it's fun - for the weekend.
