FYI - the owner of the vehicle must carry insurance, not necessarily the driver.

In this case you may be asked to *show* proof of insurance to rent, if that's their policy, but you are not required to *carry* your proof of insurance to drive a rental car in CA, only the owner's proof of insurance.

So if this company wants to kill business, then they'll continue to demand proof of insurance. It'll be good business referral to Hertz or other up & up rental companies.
