I'll elaborate on my previous point. If your question is "could you please confirm that, for my reservation number 123456 from Friday to Monday, you are able to offer us a room with a view over the main square," fair enough, the hotel should respond. However, if the question is "is the food in your country good," or "are we likely to be harassed by gypsies at main station," they're probably just having a laugh and obviously won't reply.
