I've used the Google Drive widget for scanning for over a year now and never had a problem with focus. I love the fact that, with the Google Drive Sync app for Windows, my phone scans are both up on Drive and in a local folder on my laptop within seconds.
I use the widget often. It's good for quick and dirty scanning. I've sent payroll sheets with it. It seems a little touchy with shadows sometimes. It's not as good as a flatbed scanner, obviously, but it is often good enough.
