Well I've only gone and done it! 760 TPs for £933 ..Booked through BA.. I've never booked through AA before and I wanted to see if I could upgrade one of the TATLs to F with Avios so thought it would be easier if all booked through BA?

Oh - and you can't do a 72 hour hold if other carrier flights are involved apparently.

One other slight irritation is that Matrix was booking me into A class on the return transcon from LAX to JFK and I for the BA JFK - LHR... but the agent said he couldn't do it and it was coming in at £1440 ish with both in FIRST... I really need that difference for my spending money in Vegas.

Thanks for your comments folks.. now got to decide if I really want to go by myself as can't get anyone to say yes at such short notice!
