How would you normally relieve the boredom (if not on a plane)? Were you travelling in Y/J/F? Do you think its a problem that can be mitigated by flying a higher class?

Thankfully all flights over a couple hours long we have ever taken with the kids have been in J or F; more than half of those on CX (we have done about 150 flights with kid/s since our son arrived 4 years ago so we have been around this block a few times). Yes of course, not flying coach makes things easier; more space, more helpful crew, kid can lie down and sleep properly; I am very happy we have never had to do long haul coach with them. But a bored small kid is still bored even if they're sitting at the front

If not on a plane they can roam around; play with loads of toys; make plenty of noise and do whatever they want without annoying your fellow passengers (and you). And things like diaper changes, tantrums etc are easy in non-confined spaces. On a plane however your options are a bit more limited (a year from now you will know what I mean )

But a sense of humor will get you a long way and even if the travel is sometimes a bit harrowing the trips with the kids are always worth it.

Also thanks for your comments re. NZ - if we get round to booking NZ I might PM you to get a sense of where you'd specifically been with an infant!
Of course. We have been three times with our son; it is wonderful with small kids, properties were great. Do let me know if I can answer any questions.
