Okay, so you might follow up the email with a quick call and a quick complaint about the unanswered email, but if the hotel is a different country and a different timezone, it's not automatically an option. Plus if they're not responding to emails, where else is customer service falling down? I'm just wondering if most people are of the '1 strike and you're out' opinion, and start the search all over again? Or do you book it anyway, your question wasn't that important really? Or is there anything else you do?
I have never been to a hotel that didn't have a phone. And, even if the hotel is a 12 hour time difference away, and doesn't take calls outside of normal business hours (unlikely), getting on the phone at 9p isn't such a burden IMO. Here in China, email customer service is not especially common these days, btw.
