HIDDY, I agree with alanR and think what you want to do is relevant regardless of how well you know the areas you are travelling in. If you are planning to spend lots of time visiting city centres then a campervan is not the most practical form of transport. Imagine trying to squeeze into a small parking space or use a multi-story carpark. If you are planning on spending your time in the country side then this becomes less of an issue, and the ability to camp in the heart of things becomes a big attraction.

Having looked into a campervan trip in the past, whilst it would be a new, interesting experience, and in my opinion worth the cost, the practicalities of parking on my planned itinerary stopped me going ahead.

In the USA it seem that people often tow their cars behind their vans to ensure that they have the best of both worlds.
